On March 22nd, the Philadelphia Presbytery voted to delete language from the Book of Order that says anyone who is ordained must practice “fidelity in marriage between a man and a woman” or “chastity in singleness.” A majority of the nation’s Presbyteries (87) must agree if the Book of Order is to be amended: as of this writing, 83 have voted in favor. The vote in Philadelphia was 182 to 108, a wider margin for inclusiveness than the last time the Presbytery took a similar vote.
