It rained all day, but that didn’t stop members, neighbors and friends from getting their rack of ribs, brisket dinner and other delicacies at the barbeque on June 21st. Attendance was better than ever, but the lines were short, the food hot, and the atmosphere both calm and festive thanks to the hours of planning put in by the many sub-committees under the overall leadership of Congregational Life and Growth Chair Rob MacGregor.  Folks either took their food home or sat at tables in the fellowship hall and listened to the live music of Ray of Light Blues Band; the Pastor and other members worked the line and visited tables to make sure everyone knew that Summit was a church.  Pitmasters Jim Arthur and Mike Turner put on the meat twenty-four hours in advance, as promised, and under the gentle command of Eric Emery the kitchen crew worked with professional precision. Finally, the event netted approximately $2,000 for the Deacons Fund, to be used for members of our community in special need. Thank you to all who made the barbeque such a joyous occasion!

“I Had No Idea What to Expect”

Spontaneous review of the Barbeque given by Wynne Hill in the church office.  Wynne is the community “computer hardware doctor” who works out of the Summit undercroft.  She is also a regular at Elder Diner.

“I thought I should get a barbeque dinner to support the church.  I had no idea what to expect.  But when I tasted it, I nearly fell off my chair!  I was shocked.  Shocked! The meat fell off the bones.  It was delicious – a real barbeque.  I’m going to set aside $50 next year to get a full rack (allowing for inflation).  I’ll also get some of those leaflets to pass out to my friends!

Hi - I attended the BBQ this past year - which was delicious! I thought the Ray of Light Blues Band was awesome and would like to know how I can get in touch with them? I have an event that I would like to consider hiring them to play at and I'm wondering if they have a website or something similar? If anyone has any information regarding this group I'd greatly appreciate you sending it my way. Thanks so much, can't wait until next years BBQ.
