A Rousing Pageant By Evan Meyer

On Sunday, December 16, during the worship service, Summit members put on the annual Christmas Pageant, which has been a fixture for more than 20years. (The current version was designed by Deborah Merritt, working from an original concept by Evan Meyer.) Remembering the days when angels’ sings were made out of bent wire clothes hangers, and a doll was used for Baby Jesus because the wooden manger was too rickety to trust to a live child, this performance looked to this writer like a Broadway production. It was, as always, heartwarming, unpredictable, amazingly cute, and a great way of preparing the way for the celebration of the birth of our Lord. The fun continued that evening when the Pageant was repeated for the residents of Stapeley nursing home. Thanks go to many people. Look in the Annual Report of the Christian Ed Committee for a full listing of the wonderful cast and crew, but a shout-out here to Deborah Merritt, Director, and to the (often overlooked) musicians: Ryan Tibbets and the choir, Alvina Ransaw (whose work with the kids all fall prepared them to sing out) and Steve Fitzgerald, who provided musical accompaniment at Stapeley.
