Unfogging the F.O.G.

Posted by: Chelsea Badeau on Thu, Sep 6, 2012

Do your eyes glaze over whenever you hear the words “Presbytery,” or “Book of Order” or “parliamentary procedure”? Well, there’s big news involving all these things, but—wait—I know I’m losing you already. Stay with me! This will be painless. Because of some changes at the national church (I’m trying to avoid certain words), all churches need to reconsider--though not necessarily change--how they do certain things, like how many people make a quorum for a meeting, what is the size of a Nominating Committee, and what is the minimum term of service for a church officer. We have a subcommittee of geeks working on proposed by-laws to address these things: legislative geek Evan Meyer, policy geek June Cairns, and faith geek Cheryl Pyrch. The congregation will be presented with proposals at the proper time. This project is necessitated by changes to the Form of Government (or F.O.G.). We’ll try to keep it as unfoggy as possible.
