For the past few years, Elder Diner has grown in numbers, menus, and spirit. This vital ministry now serves over 20 elders from Summit and beyond each Tuesday at noon, and it is not only a delicious and healthful meal, but a chance for folks who are often isolated or stressed to connect with the church, enjoy good conversation, laugh and get their blood pressure checked. Click to read more or speak to Deacons Sandra Dorsey or Anne Glass.
The growth of Elder Diner has largely been due to the skill and dedication of Deacon Anne Glass, who has been the main organizer, cook, shopper and even cleaner-upper. It has been a labor of love and joy, but the one person model is no longer sustainable. Every successful Elder Diner in the area has moved to a team model, so the Deacons are now looking for at least four people who can organize and take responsibility for the lunch. Being on the team would mean meeting monthly during the program year to plan the meals, recruit cooks & helpers, reach out to the community and make sure that everything happens. If you are available on at least some Tuesday afternoons that is a plus! Two deacons have volunteered to be on the team and Anne will remain as advisor and participant, but we need at least two from the congregation who can commit to this wonderful ministry. Once the team is in place, they will be reaching out to the congregation for their participation. Please speak to Deacons Sandra Dorsey or Anne Glass if you would like to learn more.
